Yuyu is an artist born in Canton, China, and currently based in San Francisco. Her practice spans painting, ceramics, and photography, with an expanding interest in mixed-media sculpture and other experimental forms. Working across mediums, she approaches art as an open field of investigation rather than a fixed discipline.

Her paintings depict fluid, abstract environments composed of layered, organic forms that feel simultaneously microscopic and atmospheric. These shifting structures suggest a mental space in constant motion, where thoughts, fragments, and sensations emerge, overlap, and dissolve. Through translucent washes, dense gestures, and an intuitive use of color, her work prioritizes feeling and internal rhythm over narrative clarity.

Alongside painting, her engagement with ceramics introduces a tactile dimension to this visual language, allowing forms that once existed on a flat surface to take on weight, volume, and physical presence. She is currently exploring how these forms might extend further into mixed-media sculpture, testing how intuitive, internal imagery can occupy real space.

Photography also is an important medium for her expression and Yuyu takes on the role of an observer in this world through her photography works.

Influenced by observation, imagination, and a sensitivity to fleeting mental states, Yuyu’s practice resists resolution. Instead, it remains rooted in curiosity, repetition, and a willingness to follow what is not yet fully understood.
